Cleavers Tea – Tasty, cleansing and free

by

Cleavers Tea is a great drink that is not only abundantly and freely available during spring and summer, but also very nice tasting and extremely healthy. Why not give it a try?

Cleavers is a common weed also known as sticky willow/sticky willy/goosegrass/catchweed/stickyjack/stickybob. It’s that sticky stuff that your kids stick to your back when you’re not looking and giggle about proudly. We’ve all trampled through it, but not everyone knows that it makes for a great drink: Cleavers Tea.

Just collect some cleavers when you are out and about, infuse it in boiling water, and you have yourself a tasty and healthy brew. You can also infuse cleavers in cold water over night with lemon to make a refreshing cold drink.

Cleavers has great cleansing properties for the urinary and digestive tracts and reduces inflammation due to its stimulating effect on the lymphatic system.

Does anyone else enjoy Cleavers Tea or a similar cold infusion? Do you make it any differently? Any flavour twist suggestions? Please share in the comments section below.

*IT IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT THAT YOU NEVER EAT ANYTHING UNLESS YOU ARE COMPLETELY SURE WHAT IT IS AS SOME PLANTS ARE POISONOUS AND IT IS EASY TO CONFUSE EDIBLE AND POISONOUS WILD PLANTS. MAKE SURE ALSO THAT YOU KNOW THE CORRECT WAY TO PREPARE YOUR PLANTS AND HOW MUCH IS SAFE TO EAT. YOUR OWN RESEARCH IS REQUIRED BEFORE COLLECTING AND EATING WEEDS*
